Discovery & scoping

Before you commit budget to a website, app or platform, we help you find out what your users really need and what it will take to deliver. You leave with a clear brief, a prioritised scope and an estimate you can take to budget.

Why Elixel

Know what to build before you build it.

When Healix came to us, a discovery analysis of their internal processes and customer insight showed where members were struggling with claims. That shaped everything we designed next. Discovery turns a big idea, or a nagging problem, into a plan you can trust.

  • Evidence, not assumptions: we talk to your users and stakeholders and look at how the work really gets done, not just how it's documented.
  • A scope you can cost: you leave with priorities, a roadmap and an estimate, not a wall of sticky notes.
  • Sized to the decision: whether it's a marketing website, an internal platform or a new product, discovery is scoped around what you need to decide next.

What's included

How we can help

User & stakeholder research

Interviews, observation and a look at your data, with the people who'll use the product and the people who'll run it. The knowledge that matters is rarely written down anywhere.

Discovery workshops

Hands-on sessions with your team to map the problem, explore ideas and agree what success looks like. Early concepts and prototypes help everyone see the same thing.

Scope, roadmap & estimate

A prioritised scope, a release roadmap and a clear estimate, so you know what you're building, in what order and what it will cost before you commit.

How we work

What a discovery looks like

We combine over a decade of product experience with the latest AI tools to speed up the slow parts of discovery: synthesising research, comparing options and turning ideas into quick prototypes. That leaves more time for the conversations that matter.

Every discovery is sized to the decision you need to make, and ends with a working session to agree next steps.

FAQs

Questions we often hear

Something else on your mind? Book a discovery call and ask us directly.

What is product discovery?

It's the work you do before design and build: understanding your users, your organisation and the problem well enough to decide what to build, and what not to. It's how you avoid spending a build budget on the wrong thing.

What do we get at the end?

A clear brief, a prioritised scope, a release roadmap and an estimate. Where it helps, you also get research findings, journey maps and early prototypes you can share with stakeholders.

How long does discovery take?

It depends on the size of the decision. A focused discovery for a website or a single feature is quicker than one for a new product or platform. We agree the scope and cost of the discovery itself up front.

Do we need discovery for a website?

A lighter version, usually. Understanding who visits your site and what they need to find makes the difference between a site that looks good and one that increases your reach.

What if discovery shows we shouldn't build it?

Then it has done its job. Finding that out early costs far less than finding out after launch, and we'll help you decide what to do instead.

Do you only work with clients in Plymouth?

No. Elixel was founded in Plymouth and our team now works across the UK, with clients in Devon, the South West and beyond, in person and remotely.
