It was mid July and the sun finally decided to shine down on Plymouth (for a brief period of time anyway) and along with that sunshine came the newest member to the Elixel family, Johnathan Mawdsley.
If you’re local to Plymouth and part of the tech community here this is a name you might recognise as he is a regular attendee of the Digital Plymouth meetups, but for those of you who don’t know him here’s a little bit about the newest member of our team, John!

Born and raised in West Yorkshire, John isn’t a Plymouth native but we won’t hold that against him, very few of us here at Elixel are, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t passionate about all things Plymouth! Approximately 7 years ago John upped sticks and relocated to the South West and originally settling in Torquay.
Tech wasn’t John’s original career path, in fact he worked as a chef for many years, but he realised this wasn’t his passion and decided he wanted a bigger challenge. This is when he got the call to coding and decided to move to Plymouth to attend University and dive into the world of Software Development. Alongside his studies John continued to whip up delicious dishes in the kitchens of local restaurants and bars before getting his first position in the tech community working for Amano Technologies in Tavistock.
When he isn’t working John likes to spend a lot of his time outdoors, particularly climbing, running and swimming. Even at work he takes any opportunity to get out in the fresh air, so on his lunch breaks you can often find him sea swimming just off the Hoe. He’s even encouraged many of us to venture out too for a mid-work dip. Not only is he improving the team dynamics but our health and fitness too! Well, we need something to counteract those Munchy Monday donut treats 🍩🍩🍩. John enjoys anything that involves the water, whether it be kayaking or SUPing and he takes full advantage of having the sea on his doorstep here in ‘Britain's Ocean City’.
John has already settled in with the team and has eagerly jumped in feet first to some exciting projects we’re working on. His expertise and energy levels are just what we need for the second half of the year and we see John being a vital part of Elixel’s future. We’re looking forward to getting to know him better and helping him prosper and progress in his career.
If you have an exciting project we can get John and the team working on then don’t hesitate to get in touch, and if you think Elixel could be the company for you, why not keep an eye on our social media pages for any current job vacancies!
